G’Day, I’m Rob Wilson - The Mountain Man
My name is Rob and I am a third generation Horticulturist. I grew up on a cut flower farm in Eight-Mile Plains, Brisbane and learned the culture of Roses from my Father and Grandfather. At 19 I entered the Horticulture industry beginning with Plant Tissue Culture, where I prepared growing media, performed research assistance and ran integrated pest management programs. My thirst for all things green simply could not be quenched and subsequently I studied at Brisbane’s Specialist Horticulture Technical school, Grovely. There, I received a Trade Certificate and Diploma of Horticulture with High Distinctions in Taxonomy and Plant Classification and Distinctions in Weed, Pest and Disease treatment.
After graduating, I formed ‘The Mountain Man’ brand, which has since evolved into a complete soft landscape service and ally in Horticultural education. My work has progressed from mere Craft Gardening into a vehicle to equip others to lead healthier, greener, more sustainable lives in their gardens. While growing ‘The Mountain Man’ I have performed varying roles in the industry including retail/wholesale nursery, domestic gardening and bush regeneration. I have developed an ever-growing portfolio of workshops to help educate commercial and domestic gardeners alike. Not only do I plant, rejuvenate and refurbish gardens, but I encourage my clients to become active participants in their landscapes, and guide them to live in and enjoy their outdoor space as part of their day to day movements.
The garden is a very human experience and by its interactive nature, it can promote better physical and mental health, enjoyment, relaxation and a broader sense of well being. From scheduled garden maintenance and development to design, consultancy, workshops and tuition, I provide the tools for you to get more from your patch of Earth.
